Hell's Precipice

Objectives:
• Disable the Titan Portals.
• Defeat Undead Rurik.
• Destroy the Lich.
• *Bonus* Destroy all three Armageddon Lords.

Foes
This is probably not a complete list, however these are the main enemies that one faces when playing this mission.
• Armageddon Lords – Level 28
Armageddon Lords are fire elementalists. When slain, they give birth to a Risen Ashen Hulk.
• Burning Titans – Level 28
Burning Titans set you on fire when standing next to them. They are similar to warriors in attack speed (hammer) and deal appropriate damage for a level 28. When killed they spawn a level 24 Risen Ashen Hulk.
• Risen Ashen Hulks – Levels 24 and 28
Risen Ashen Hulks are necromancers. They are level 24 is spawned from a Burning Titan and they are level 28 if spawned from a Armageddon Lord or found on their own. Upon their death, they spawn a Hand of the Titan and a Fist of the Titan.
• Hand of the Titan – Level 24
Hand of the Titans are spawned when a Risen Ashen Hulk dies, yet can also be found on their own. They are axe warriors who are capable of dishing out a deep wound.
• Fist of the Titan – Level 24
Fist of the Titans are spawned when a Risen Ashen Hulk dies, yet can also be found on their own. They are sword warriors who pack final thrust.
• Spark of the Titans – Level 28
Spark of the Titans are annoying fire elementalists who have a tendency to set things on fire and deal a lot of damage.
• Portal Wraiths – Level 24
Portal Wraiths are air elementalists. They guard the titan portols that the Lich Lord opened to the major cities of tyria.
• Undead Prince Rurik – Level 28
That’s right, remember when I said lots of spoilers? Here’s a big one. Rurik has been re-animated and is a more powerful – yet still pushover - version of himself. He’s a sword warrior packing Hundred Blades. It’s not that much of a spoiler though because he is seen at the end of the Thunderhead Keep cutscene.
• The Lich Lord – Level 30
Also known as the “Undead Lich”, this is the big bad guy of the prophecies campaign. This is sad because of how easy he is. Soul Vortex is a monster only skill which he uses that teleports a player out into the middle of nowhere, sometimes into lava. He also teleports himself around a lot, to take a break from the beating you should be giving him.

When fighting a group with multiple burning titans, kill the first one, then kill the ashen hulk, then kill the hand and fist that rise from that. In groups with multiples of Burning Titans or Risen Ashen Hulks, it’s easy to get overwhelmed if you don’t take them down one at a time.

Party Composition and Skill Selection

At this point in the game, party composition and build conforming really do make a difference. Think about the kinds of things you will be facing, and create a build around what you find.

Titans most titans are not fleshy. This means they will not leave a corpse and are not affected by bleeding, poison or disease. Meaning your MM will be mostly useless here, and your sword warrior will have to pack something other than his favorite Sever Artery + Gash combo.

It’s common belief that titans (Especially Hands and Fists of the Titan) have high fire resistance, and are weak to cold damage. A common strategy is to take a ranger who has not yet capped Greater Conflagration and have him bring Winter. This will help your damage output considerably. If you don’t have the option of Greater Conflagration, simply use winter if you have elemental damage to your team.

When adjacent to certain titans, your character will be set on fire as long as he/she is standing next to that titan. Take this into account when planning your skillbars.

Walkthrough

Getting Started

The Censors Icon – and after a few moments of contemplation, placing it carefully in my storage vault. It’s probably still there behind the Tribal Blade of Tomato Slaying.

So, off went in search of Lions Arch and beyond. Then recall bumping into a group of Hydras shortly before the mountains and that put an end to that self-satisfaction. You know the ones, when there are vast amount of monsters waiting for you as you resurrect and you kill one, die, kill one, die, kill one… well, you get the picture. Started the 60% Club, enter explorable areas, get killed four times and then start playing, get into an explorable area with a group and spend a good amount of time there and it can be a lot of fun. It doesn’t matter if you’re on a 60% death penalty or none at all, just keep dusting yourself off and running back into the face of adventure!

Well, anyway, you’ve managed to get my Mesmer, Camby, through the missions and have had a blast doing it. Going out to capture Elite Skills (which youcan accept some players may not enjoy) and helping guildies achieve their various goals are equally fun.

Activating The Bonus

To activate the bonus, follow the blue path to the point I’ve labeled “Seer”. At that point, you’ll see a dude named “Ancient Seer” who is level thirty. The seer should be standing next to a Burning Titan. As you approach, he’ll engage the titans around him (her? Meh who knows, it’s an alien.). You’ve gotta take care of all of the enemies around the seer, because if you don’t they are likely to kill the seer and you won’t get credit for the bonus, even if you kill the Armageddon Lords. The Activation of the bonus causes Armageddon Lords to spawn at the points on the map that I’ve labeled.

At this point, you should fight on until you see a big open area with lots of enemies in it.

The Portal Wraiths

This area has a lot of enemies in it that are patrolling. Stand up on the hill of the path you first used to enter the area. Start pulling small groups into it so you can kill them in an easier way. When you’ve cleared out enough you can venture farther out, but still keep pulling enemies because every patrol has at least one other patrol that crosses it’s paths. When you’ve cleared out enough enemies, it’s safe to kill the boss mobs and the Armageddon Lords (Armageddon Lords only spawn if you activated the bonus).

After clearing the area, lay siege to the portals. Each portal is guarded by three Portal Wraiths. The wraiths are squishy and easily killed. After destroying all three portals, you will be treated to a cutscene.

Cutscene

After you killed the portal wraiths and destroyed the portals to the major cities of tyria, you will have the opportunity to see a cutscene.

The Lich Lord seems to be having fun at the beginning of the scene. He then introduces you to the Undead Prince Rurik.

After the cutscene, you will be put at the big red blob right below the spot on the map labeled “Prince Rurik”.

Defeating Rurik

Rurik himself is a pushover, but you’ve got a fairly large group of hands and fists of titans, plus several sparks of the titans. Back up a bit so you don’t lure everything at the same time. You’ll be attacked by several of the hands or fists (usually four). After killing them, lure more. Continue luring until you have killed everything but Rurik. Then, kill Rurik. After killing the prince, you’ll be treated to another cutscene in which Rurik basically apologizes for everything and then the party leader is shown killing him in one way or another.

The Lich Lord and the Bloodstone

You should have made more or less a full circle by now and ended up back at the bloodstone. The goal is to kill the Lich Lord at the center of the bloodstone to charge the soul batteries and close the Door of Komalie. If you don’t kill the lord in the center of the bloodstone, he will respawn nearby. The number of times you have to kill the Lich Lord seems to be set, but players often report different results. FROM MY EXPERIENCE, you have to kill the lord once if he’s at the very center of the bloodstone, and three times if he’s off the center (usually it doesn’t take more than two kills because I time it more carefully if he doesn’t die the first time). Others obviously will have different experiences as nobody can seem to agree on what actually happens, but the most times anyone has had to kill him is three. When he’s killed off center, you should see some of the soul batteries light up, and a hand and a fist of the titan will spawn. When all of the soul batteries are charged, the mission will end and you’ll be taken to a cutscene.
